League implications on the line tonight between Scott City and Ulysses
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Whenever you get Scott City and Ulysses on the same field, you know it will always be a battle. Also, there’s a good chance that league title implications are on the line. That’s the case once again tonight at Darner Field, as the Beavers host Ulysses in both teams’ GWAC finale for the season.
What’s at stake for tonight’s 7 pm kickoff? A Scott City win would give the Beavers the outright Great West Activities Conference title outright for the fourth time in five years. If the Tigers win, it would all but assure a share of the GWAC crown with Scott City and Ulysses for sure, and would possibly add in Holcomb to the fray, if they were to defeat Hugoton on October 31.
Ulysses has bounced back nicely after the 17-14 overtime defeat on September 19 at Holcomb. The Tigers are 4-1 overall, and 3-1 in league play, thanks to their 73-33 road win at Goodland last Friday night. Ulysses led 66-19 at the break, as Ian Rudzik rushed for over 300 yards and seven touchdowns in the win. As a unit, the Tigers are averaging 364 yards on the ground per game, and putting up nearly 47 points a contest, while giving up 17 a game.
Scott City recorded their second shutout of the season in a 42-0 win over Hugoton on the road last Friday night. The Beavers used yet once again a balanced attack, as Trey O’Neil thew for two touchdowns, while rushing for one, and Cooper Griffith had a pair of rushing scores in the win, as Scott City rolled up 427 yards of offense, while holding the Eagles to only 83 yards to ensure their 28th consecutive winning season, that started in 1987. This years version of the Beavers have also been dominant, averaging 511 yards of offense and 50 points per game, while limiting their opponents to seven points a contest, and are plus-12 in the turnover department.
Kickoff at Darner Field is set for 7 pm. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30.
