Buffs score shutout win; Dodge wins in OT
Great Bend, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-Both Joaquin Padilla and Josue Negron were visibly frustrated with the fact that their team couldn’t finish near the net on Tuesday night. 48 hours later, there was no such problem.
Erik Barragan scored three goals and Garden City out shot Great Bend 16-3 in a 5-0 victory at Memorial Stadium.
“Defensively we lacked some communication early,” said goalie Israel Reyes, who recorded three saves. “But we came together and got things going and got the win.”
Reyes had a relatively calm night while the offense turned it up. Sebastian Kyaw got the Buffaloes on the board with a goal in the 4th minute. Barragan added a goal four minutes later before David Amaro closed out the first half with a score in the 13th minute off an assist from Barragan.
Barragan scored two more in the second half: one in the 57th minute and one in the 61st.
Dodge holds on in extra session
McPherson, Kan-Not that Charles Johnson doesn’t mind excitement, but twice now in the last two weeks, he’s watched his team win nail biters in overtime.
On Thursday, Isaac Palma provided his head coach a reason to breath a sigh of relief-scoring in overtime as Dodge City upended McPherson 2-1.
“I think we played really well, considering the weather,” Johnson said afterwards. “Now our goal is to finish things off and win the WAC.”
