Buster soccer blanked at home; volleyball loses in four

Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-Garden City found out on Thursday, there’s a reason why Johnson County has just one blemish on their resume in conference play.

The Cavaliers jumped out early and often-rolling Garden City 4-0 Wednesday afternoon at Buster Stadium.

“We’re maybe two players away from competing against a team like that,” Head Coach Charles Long said afterwards. “We’re very close.”

And if you watched the final 15 minutes, Garden City owned the attached. But it was the first 75 minutes that determined the outcome.

Ashylyn Summar got the Cavaliers going in the ninth minute. 15 minutes later Courtney Hughes made it 2-0. Johnson County (11-4, 7-1) added a goal early n the second half by Brooklyn Meinke and another one in the 66th minute by Guadalupe Cordova to cap the scoring. 

“We’re building confidence as we go,” Buster goalie Ashlie Rojas said.” I’m trusting my teammates more because there is more pressure on them.”

The loss drops Garden City to 6-7-1 overall and 2-6 in the Jayhawk. Next up: Barton County next Thursday.
