Empowering Parents: Information They Need to Know About “Sexting”

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The real world has many dangers. Last night local law enforcement informed students and parents of the dangers in “sexting” during a one hour public forum at Garden City High School.

Garden City Police Captain Michael Utz on what parents can do.

Officials are worried parents will not take these steps because they do not want to invade their kids privacy.  It may seem shocking how quickly someone who wants to hurt your child can access pictures online.

USD 457 has set up a technology responsibility class to inform students on the dangers of sexting, but to make a real impact Captain Utz believes students can not do it alone.

Technology classes have already started in Garden City schools, deferral classes for the suspects involved in the sexting incident at the high school begins next month.
