Dodge wins thriller on the pitch
Dodge City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-Rivalry games are supposed to be like this. They’re supposed to bring out the best in everyone. That’s exactly how it played out Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
The Demons scored three second-half goals to tie it; then won the game on a penalty kick in double overtime 4-3 over Garden City.
“This was just a gritty game,” Dodge City Coach Charles Johnson said. “Both teams played their guts out. It’s sad someone has to walk away a loser.”
Dodge City spoiled Erik Barragan’s night; the senior netted three goals, including the game-tying score in the 74th minute. But Isaac Palma added the dagger in overtime-scoring on a penalty kick with 34 seconds remaining. He added two other goals; both in the second half. Eddie Del Toro also found his way into the score book-hitting the back of the net in the 56th minute.
Dodge City (6-2, 3-0) out shot Garden City (5-2, 1-2) 24-19.
