Scott City tennis second at home invite; X-Country teams second at Hugoton, Volleyball wins two more in Liberal

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It has been a busy few days for SCHS athletics, as the girls tennis team wrapped up a busy three days on Monday with a second place finish at their home invite.

Colby won the meet with 39 points, while Scott City’s “Blue” team was second with 32 points, and the Scott City “White” team placed seventh with nine points. For the Blue team, Krystal Appel placed fourth in No. 1 Singles, Emma Price was second in No. 2 Singles, Bre Smull & Emily Buxton placed fifth. while Melanie & Christina Tilton were third place in No. 2 Doubles. The Scott City “White” team saw Jennie Erven place seventh on No. 2 Singles, the No. 1 Doubles team of Alma Martinez & Ximena Alaya place sixth and the No. 2 Doubles team of Addie Price & Karlee Logan finish in fourth place. 

On Saturday, the Beaver cross country teams participated in the Hugoton Cross Country Invitational, and came out well. The boys team placed second overall to host school Hugoton. Irvin Lozano was the top runner for the boys, placing 11th, while Dylan Hutchins was 17th, Edi Balderrama 21st, Miguel Chavez 32nd, Seth Cardenas 36th, Austin Rios 46th and Heath Briggs 60th. The girls also came in second, behind Stratford, TX. Individually, Mikaela Stevens was second, Trella Davis placed 15th, Jade Wren 18th, Kylee Trouth 19th, Olivia Prieto 30th and Macy Davis 32nd. 

Also on Saturday, the Scott City volleyball team took part in the Liberal Invitional, and came out with a 2-3 record. Their pool ended up with two of the top three teams of the tournamant, as they lost to the third place team Ulysses 25-19, 25-7, and tournament champion Emporia 25-15, 25-12. For the win in pool play, they knocked off Liberal JV 19-25, 25-16, 25-22. In the Bronze Bracket, the Lady Beavers defeated Wichita Southeast 28-26, 25-22, before falling to Southwestern Heights 25-20, 25-15.
