Battle of the Eagles: Hugoton at Colby
Colby, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Two young football teams will be in similar circumstances when they Colby and Hugoton hit the football field Friday night. The question is who will be hungrier for a win? Colby enters on a sixteen game losing streak. Their last win came two years ago against Hugoton when Beau Brown rushed for 179 yards and 2 touchdowns. Since then there has been very few opportunities to win a game for eighth year head coach Chris Garner.
Reports are that Colby’s few seniors put their teammates through extra drills once Coach Garner dismissed practice this week. For Hugoton a win tonight will give them a 2-1 record and would even their mark in the GWAC at 1-1. Coach Todd Fulton likes the way his team has established momentum in the first two games, now he wants his guys to keep it.
Colby’s Benjamin Matchell rushed for 127 yards in a 14-10 loss at Oakley two weeks ago. Hugoton gave up 355 rushing yards in last week’s 46-14 loss at Ulysses. Kickoff is 7 tonight, pre-game on Hits 106 and westernkansasnews.com begins at 6:30.
