Charges on Hold in “Sexting” Case at Garden City High School

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Finney County Attorney Susan Richmeier in a written statement released late Friday afternoon says a thorough investigation  has identified up to thirty-eight Garden City High School students accused of “sexting” or sending nude photos of other students from their mobile devices.  The incidents of sexting occurred over a twelve month period beginning in January 2013.

Richmeier after consultation with the state Attorney General’s office, Police Department and USD 457 will hold off on pursuing charges and has opted instead that these students participate in a deferral program to learn about the serious consequences of “sexting”.  There are also plans to hold a public forum on this topic in the near future.
