Bus Driver Shortage Causing Problems at USD 457
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) At the end of Monday night’s school board meeting USD 457 Superintendent Dr. Rick Atha identified a busing problem at Garden City schools caused by a shortage of drivers. Atha has been told morning and afternoon routes are taking too long. Some kids are staying on the bus almost two hours to and from school causing a supervision problem in some cases.
Atha says he will sign a contract with First Student a company out of Wichita for five bus drivers to begin work after Labor Day through November 1st. Its anticipated the school district will be able to certified a new group of drivers by that time, solving the problem.
