Taking Healthy Eating to a New Level

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The old adage is you are what you eat.  Federal regulations are tightening this year on what school districts can serve students for meals and snacks.  

Tracy Johnson USD 457 Director of Nutrition Services does not believe the standards are that big of a deal among Garden City students.

Another complication from the new federal standards has put some fundraising events in a tough position.  Johnson on what times are off limits.

The solution, if you wanted to have a bake sale is to either do the fundraiser thirty minutes after school or off school property. Violations of the new standards could have consequences.

Johnson was unsure about the severity of the penalty.
