The Complete Picture On Meeting Western Kansas Water Needs

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The region’s longterm viability of water became the topic of discussion during this week’s Kansas Water Authority meeting in Garden City.  Director of the Kansas Water Office Tracy Streeter was pleased to hear that the agency’s initial findings on its 50 year vision received a good response.

Streeter believes emerging technologies will improve techniques in certain areas like the ways fields are irrigated.  Discussions have also surfaced on the ability of reusing water and that developing this technology could address several needs.

Some of the lingering questions would be installing separate plumbing or how to clean up the water for reuse.  As for getting additional water into the area the group looked at the Missouri River as a possibility.

If that falls through an alternative plan was mentioned after representatives of the Kansas Water Office attended a meeting last month in New Mexico.

Streeter calls this proposal promising.  As with all plans, cost is the biggest factor on whether or not it would work.
