Buffs swimming takes title in Salina
Salina, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-Showing off early is never what coaches have in mind. Doing so late; now that’s more like it.
Garden City scored 422 points to nab a first-place finish at the Salina South Invitational. They did it on the back of two strong finishes.
Claire Schmidt, who’s been pacing herself nicely all season, beat out Salina Central’s Leatha Craft by just under four seconds in the 500-yard freestyle. 6:11.22 was her best time of the season.
She was also part of the second-place 400-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay teams while finishing 5th in the 50-yard freestyle.
Meantime Samantha Norton raced to victory in the 200-yard individual medley; outpacing Hannah Schulte from Salina Central by a good two seconds. She added a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.
Salina Central finished second (411), followed by Derby (316), Salina (234), Dodge City (202) and Junction City (152).
