Dodge golf second; Buffs not far off

Great Bend, Kan (westernkansasnews)-The phrase it’s a marathon not a sprint is perfectly appropriate to describe Garden City’s early season ups and downs. Monday afternoon, Walker Frey’s team made more strides towards the top.

Freshman Taylor Larsen’s 77 tied for the day’s lowest score-leading the Buffaloes to a third place finish at the Great Bend Invitational.

“It was kind of a weird day,” Larsen said afterwards. “It was off and on. I had some good holes, but I had plenty of bad ones. I need to clean that up.”

Larsen’s good holes overshadowed his bad ones-firing a 36 on the back nine-one of only four players to shoot under 40 during that stretch.

Logan Durst shot an 84, Austin Swender-85, Tucker Schiffelbein-87, Connor Schultz -89 and Lucas Goss an 87. As a team, the Buffaloes tallied a 333.

Dodge City came in second thanks to Levi Bone’s 79-good for fourth overall individually. Kameron Miller was right behind him with an 80.

“We didn’t do our best as a team,” Miller said. “There’s always next week as we get ready for WAC.”

Jace Larsen was in the mix as well-shooting an 81. The Demons totaled a 330.

Hays finish first (318).
