Befort No Hits Dodge City, GCHS Sweeps Doubleheader
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City High School softball pitchers had complete control of yesterday’s doubleheader with Dodge City at Tangeman Field winning 10-0 in game one and 2-0 in the second game. Dusti Befort pitch a six inning no hitter striking out 17, Abbie Dart fanned 16 and only allowed two hits in game two. Garden City (10-3, 5-1 WAC) kept within striking distance of first place in the WAC heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.
Garden City did not do anything spectacular offensively in the first game. The one word that would sum up the way GC played would be opportunistic. The Buffs took advantage of eight Red Demon errors and all the runs they scored off Dodge City starting pitcher Matti Tieben were unearned. The sophomore allowed ten unearned runs on nine hits while striking out five and walking three. Tieben took it up a notch in the second game along with the defense behind her.
Highlights
Dodge City (3-9, 0-6 WAC) turned their defense around from an eight error performance in game one to just one error in the second game. Tieben benefited allowing just two runs, one earned and five hits while striking out three and walking two. Garden finally scored in the sixth inning of game two. Jaime St. Clair had a one out walk, stole second and was singled in by Kennedy Brunson who then advanced to second on a fielding error by Riley Lopp. Befort followed up with her fourth hit of the doubleheader, a single knocking in Brunson to give Garden City a 2-0 win.
