Hays blanks GCHS baseball
Hays, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-Over the last week, offense has been hard to come by for Garden City. With Tuesday’s 5-0 and 7-0 losses to Hays, the Buffs have now scored just one run in their last three games.
“We got plenty of two-out hits,” Head Coach Bill Wilson said after the game. “But we really never threatened. We didn’t have a runner at 3rd base all night.”
That’s hard to do against a team that’s expected to complete for the Western Athletic Conference title despite their 5-5 record.
“We thought Hays would be down this year,” Wilson said. “But we found out quickly that wasn’t the case.”
The veteran skipper was referring to the Indians loss to Salina South where Hays allowed 13 unearned runs. That wasn’t the case on Tuesday.
Kade Parker’s second no-hit performance of the season in game one set the tempo. He fanned nine Buffalo hitters while only walking one.
In game two, it was Marcus Altman’s four-hit performance that was the difference.
The losses dropped Garden City to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in conference. Hays improved to 5-5 and 3-1 in the WAC.
