Final two minutes undoing; Hays drops Buffs soccer
Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-It wasn’t pretty, but Garden City found themselves in a 1-1 tie with less than 15 minutes to go against a team that has been a major thorn in their side. Then 120 seconds happened.
After Evenlyn Rodriguez’s unassisted goal in the 67th minute tied it, Hays answered back with two goals in just under two minutes to sneak past Garden City 3-1 Monday afternoon at Buffalo Stadium.
“We just seemed to run out of energy,” Head Coach Joaquin Padilla said. “We were pretty short on our bench.”
And for most of the match, it appeared the Buffaloes (4-3, 1-1) were stuck in quick sand. But with just over 13 minutes remaining, Rodriguez floated a ball towards the Hays goal and watched goalie Brittany Dinkel backtrack and bobble it into the net-tying the game 1-1.
But Alexa Brull scored inn the 76th minute and then again in the 78th sealing the Lady Indians victory.
Hays scored their first goal in the 28th minute when Talyn Kleweno scored on an unassisted goal.
