Walking off in style; Buster softball sweeps Lamar
Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-All Becky Gundy has been asking for all season is consistency. And even though it wasn’t perfect on Tuesday, the first-year head coach got what she was hoping for.
Mattie Miller’s game-winning hit in game two polished off a Buster sweep 9-8 and 8-0.
“We’re still searching for that consistency from game one to game two,” Gundy said. “But overall I’m very pleased today.”
And she should be. Trailing 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh, the Busters rallied to tie the game when Chassidy Cerrato singled home Karrissa Cardenas. Then with runners at the corners Miller laced a shot down the third-base line scoring Alex Barleen and giving Garden City (16-19, 5-5) the sweep.
“We needed this going into a big conference showdown with Barton County on Wednesday,” Gundy said.
Rachel Roe allowed only two hits in the opener; then got support from the offense in game two-despite allowing eight runs on seven hits.
