Hugoton softball splits twin bill; Lakin sweeps
Hugoton, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-There’s definitely a youth movement going on in Hugoton. The Lady Eagles return just three players from last year’s squad. So it was no surprise to Head Coach Lance Cornelsen or assistant Gena Burnett that their team struggled in their season opener.
Hugoton lost game one to Southwestern Heights 21-10 before rallying to win game two 14-4.
“We basically have a brand-new team,” Burnett said. “That was apparent game one. But the girls game together much better in game two.”
The Lady Eagles committed six errors in the first game before settling in to a clean, 14-hit, run-rule victory in game two.
LAKIN SWEEPS TWO FROM STANTON
Lady Broncs used some late-game heroics for an 8-6 win over Stanton County in game one. They followed that up with a 7-5 win in the finale-making the most of just five hits.
