0

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Fresh off repeating as state 6A champs for the second year in a row, friends and family celebrated the Garden City wrestling team’s accomplishment at the high school gymnasium Sunday afternoon. Neither the cold weather or slick roads dampened the enthusiasm of the team, coaching staff or fans. To reach their goal again, head coach Carlos Prieto and his team had to stop a motivated challenger.

The team not only repeated as state champs, but 113 pounder Michael Prieto and 138 pounder Tevin Briscoe successfully defended their titles. Prieto was able to celebrate the emotion of winning a state title again with his dad by his side.

Briscoe needed to maintain his focus in the championship match.

Montana Fuller came within seconds of winning a state championship at 285. For overcoming an injury that sideline him for half the year Fuller still holds his head high.

Fuller will go on to play football at Hutch next season.
