Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City Community College softball team opened the season at home with a pair of wins defeating Pratt Monday 8-5 and 11-2.  The Broncbusters used a four run sixth inning in game one to take the lead for good.  Mattie Miller and Lauren Shanks each drove in two for Garden City.  Shanks had the go ahead RBI double. Pitcher Rachael Roe went the distance and won the game giving up four runs on five hits, while striking out twelve.  Roe was happy to have so much offensive support.

In the second game, Garden City carried the momentum from their win in the opener to strike for seven runs in the first en route to an 11-2 win.  Shortstop Emilie Laiberte a freshman from Quebec, Canada had her first collegiate homer in the inning, a two run blast to right center.

For Garden City Head Coach Becky Gundy she was pleased with the way her team handled the pressure of starting the season.

The Broncbusters return to the field Wednesday when they host Hutch in a doubleheader.  First game begins at 1pm.
