Holcomb girls place fifth at Hillsboro
Holcomb overcame a pesky and determined Goodland Cowgirls team 46-41 Saturday afternoon to take 5th at the Trojan Classic in Hillsboro. Taylor Deniston led the Lady Longhorns with 25 points, including hitting 11 of 12 free throws. Four of those free throws came in the last 10 seconds of the game, as Taylor hit both ends of the one-and-one on consecutive trips and Holcomb outlasted Goodland for the win. The Longhorns went 2-1 in the tournament, losing their opening round game to 3A powerhouse Riley County, 51-46; and then overwhelming Republic County 64-26 on Friday, before finishing off with the win over Goodland on Saturday. The Longhorns’ next game will be on Friday at Hugoton, with a 6:30 tip-off and the pregame starting at 6:15 on KBUF 1030-AM.
