Wichita, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-Not that they would have used it, but Garden City had a built-in-excuse if they would have lost Wednesday night: Three matches in three days. They never considered that an option.

Eric Barrigan scored two goals and David Fuentes added another as the Buffs pulled away from Trinity Academy 3-1 in the semifinals of the Wichita North Tournament.

“It really shows our character,” Coach Josue Negron said following the match. “We didn’t have any rest and we still went in there and handled our business.”

Garden City (10-3, 6-1) jumped in front first when Eric Barrigan scored in the 28th minute on a perfect pass from Sebastian Kyaw.

Trinity grabbed the equalizer just 10 minutes later on a corner kick by Cael Burke, sending the game into the locker room tied 1-1.

“They’re a good team,” Negron said. “We didn’t pull this one out until the very end.”

In the second half-the Buffs took the lead for good when Ismael Hernandez setup Barrigan’s second goal in the 68th minute.

David Fuentes added an insurance goal in the 75th minute-securing a two-goal victory.

Garden City out shot Trinity 11-5. Israel Reyes with three saves.
