Ulysses volleyball sweeps Scott City
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Th Ulysses Lady Tigers won the 2012 GWAC title over Scott City last fall at the league tournament in Hugoton. Thursday night, Ulysses showed that it would be difficult to knock them from the top, as they swept the Lady Beavers in Scott City’s home opener 25-14, 25-16, 25-17.
Scott City would go toe-to-toe early on in each of the three sets with Ulysses, but youth would catch up with the Lady Beavers about midway in each set. The Lady Tigers were able to jump out to comfortable leads, and would not let Scott City get any closer than five points. For Ulysses (5-0), they were led by junior Kyann Eslick. She is one of the top players in western Kansas, and showed why. Eslick collected a match-high 13 kills, and scored Ulysses’ first three points of set one on kills. She also had a pair of aces. Jessi Arnold added six kills for the Lady Tigers. Scott City was led by senior Bailey Nickel with eight kills and recorded a pair of ace serves, and Kelly Wycoff had three ace serves for the Lady Beavers (1-2).
In the earlier matches of the night, Scott City took the C-Team game in straight sets, and the Junior Varsity defeated Ulysses two sets to one.
Scott City will participate in a quadrangular Tuesday in Leoti, facing Goodland Lakin and Wichita County.
