Dodge City running back making a name
Dodge City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-Tyreis Thomas, sophomore Running Back for the Dodge City Dodge City Community College football team has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week. Rushing for four touchdowns including a 92-yard score, Thomas carried the Conquistadors to a 41-35 win at Highland Community College. He rushed for 249 yards in 27 attempts. Thomas also had one catch for 15 yards.
“When you think of nationally-that’s everyone able to notice it,” Thomas said. “To be a young person and accomplish something like that; it’s definitely something that I’m proud of; my family is proud of and my team.”
Coach Gary Thomas was very proud of Tyreis for his accomplishments. “Tyreis is a very capable runner. He helped us win quite a few games last year at DuPage, and we expect him to do the same this year at Dodge. I imagine he will have quite a few colleges to pick from next year. Someone is going to get a heck of a football player, and a heck of a person!”
The Conquistadors are at home this weekend playing host to the Hutch Blue Dragons. Kickoff is at 1:00 at Memorial Stadium.
