High Altitude; Busters Cross Country opens season

Alamosa, CO-(westerkansasnews.com)-If you’re playing any type of sport in the state of Colorado, you better bring your oxygen. 

That was the lesson the Garden City Community College Cross Country team learned following a sixth and seventh-place finish respectively for the men and women on Saturday in the Joe Vigil Invitational. 

“I thought they performed very well,” Head Coach Ryan Turner said. It’s an improvement over last year.”

Results:

The men’s team was paced by Alfredo Lebron 27:44 8K and was 26th,overall. Babiker Babiker was two seconds behind Lebron. 

Rounding out the top seven was Anthony Hamilton 29:08, Jose Zavala 29:16, Fidel Munoz 29:40, Christian Resley 30:19 and Jalen Rowland 30:22. Adams State won the meet with a perfect score of 15.
 
On the women’s side the Busters were paced by Pratt Community College Transfer Jenny Boroughs. Boroughs came in at 22:05 in the 5K event. She was followed by Anahy Castro22:25, Jaden Bolmer 22:47, Sandra Thornton 23:36, Norma Rodriques 30:26 and Karla Perez 32:25. 

Adams State College won the overall women’s championship. 

The Busters are at home. Thursday September, 12th. The Busters are host to the Garden City, Dodge City Dual.  The event will be held at the Tangeman Sports Complex. The women are scheduled to runat 6:00 pm and the men will follow at 6:45.
