Three wins from championship week
Wichita, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-Maybe they weren’t the favorite heading into this year’s NBC World Series, but that hasn’t stopped Liberal from making a run against the odds. The five-time champs raced to a 7-2 win over the Kansas Alumni in an elimination game at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium Tuesday night.
Through four games in the tournament, it’s been the pitching that has steadied the Bee Jays attack.
“Things felt good tonight,” Liberal starter Chad Reiser said after the game. “It was my first start in a week so I got a good amount of reset and was able to go out there and execute how I wanted to.”
The Blue Jays hurler, who’s relatively new to this bunch, pitched seven strong innings, allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out seven.
“This team is very rowdy, but these guys are fun to be around,” Reiser said. “They make the dugout light and make it easy to come out here and win games.”
In contrast to execution, the Alumni shot themselves in the foot early, spotting the Bee Jays a six-run lead after two innings-thanks in large part to two costly errors.
Next up: Liberal vs. Cape Girardeau, MO 1 pm at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
