A’s rally comes up short
Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-Losing is always tough; backbreaking defeats during a postseason push: devastating. Dodge City watched their fading playoff hopes evaporate with a second-straight one-run loss (7-6) to Wellington Sunday night at Cavalier Field.
It wasn’t for a lack of effort. Trailing 7-2 entering the 9th-the A’s made things very interesting. Dillon Englehart led off the inning with a solo shot cutting the deficit to four. Then with two outs and runners at the corners, David Lafleur smashed a three-run shot over the center-field wall. Dodge City (8-25) would bring the tying run to the plate, only to see Brian Mills ground out to the pitcher to end the game.
Dodge City sits in last place in the Jayhawk (top three teams: Hays, Wellington, El Dorado advance to NBC World Series).
