Blues off and running in Pratt
Pratt, Ks-(westernkansasnews)-Mother nature actually helped Finney County on Thursday night. The skies opened up in the 6th just in time for the Blues to claim a 5-1 win over Lyons on the opening day of the Pratt tournament.
Lyle Befort’s team getting the scoring started early; plating two in the first on Ivan Gutierrez’s two-run triple.
“We started off really good, hitting their guy pretty hard,” Befort said. “Then all of the sudden we got anxious at the plate; we can’t afford to do that.”
The party would continue in the 2nd when Robert Tomlin, who was a menace on the base paths–swiping two bags in the game, delivered an RBI single right up the middle to give the Blues a 3-0 lead. Finney would tack on two more in the inning.
Blues starter Ivan Rodriguez was dominant-striking out two and allowing just two hits in five innings of work.
“I felt I wasn’t on, but I kept the ball down,” Rodriguez said. “I got ground ball outs, which are always a pitcher’s best friend.”
