GCHS Girls Track Team 1st in WAC and Buffalo Boys 3rd
Dodge City, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – The Garden City Track and Field teams produced some stellar results on Thursday at Dodge City at the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Championships. The Garden City Lady Buffs won their 2nd consecutive WAC title with 110 points, Dodge City was 2nd with 94 followed by Hays, Liberal and Great Bend. On the boys side, it was again the Hays Indians taking WAC honors with 113 points, Liberal 2nd with 98 and Garden City finished 3rd with 65 followed by Dodge City and Great Bend. The Lady Buffs produced a number gold medal performances from Alex Miller in the 1600 with a PR of 5:23.05, Kayla Doll in the open 800, Katy Doll had her best time in the 3200 11:55.04, Taryn Tempel in 200 meter dash plus the 4×400(Tempel, Doll, Doll, Harman) and 4×800(Miller, Doll, Doll, Harman) meter relay teams. For the Buffalo boys, they had gold medal performances from Jonathon Duvall in the 110 High Hurdles in a time of 14.30, Dustin Tempel in the Long Jump leaping 22′ 1.5″ and Aaron Vasquez with his best vault on the season winning the Pole Vault at 14.6′. Both Buffalo teams had a number of top five finishes and producing quality points. The Garden City Regional Track and Field meet will be right back at Dodge City on Friday May 17th, with the top four qualifiers advancing to the State Track Meet on May 24th and 25th at Cessna Stadium on the Campus of Wichita State University. The Western Kansas Broadcast Center sports network stations of 99.9 KWKR, BOB 106.7, MIX 94.5 will have 30 minutes of coverage on every hour at the largest High School Track meet in the country beginning at 7:00 am on Friday and running through the 7 o’clock hour that night and then again on Saturday beginning at 7:00 am and running until the conclusion of the meet. Dodge City Track reports will also be produced on Z98 40 past the hour each day for the duration of the State Championships. For the 2nd consecutive year Garden City High School has won the WAC Athletic Championship traveling trophy that represents every sport at each of the WAC schools. Congratulations Buffaloes!!!
