Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Goodland Cowgirl softball team swept a pair of Great West Activities Conference games Thursday afternoon in Scott City. It was Scott City’s season opener, while Goodland came into town with a 1-1 record.

Game one was played pretty competitive through the first three innings. In the fourth, the Cowgirls opened the game open with six runs to make it 12-0, and ended up with a 14-0 win in a game called after the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule. Kelsey Kuckelman took the loss for the Lady Beavers, as she went all five innings in the circle.

The finale was a little tighter early on. Scott City took their first lead of the doubleheader 2-1 after the first inning, but Goodland would retake it with two runs in the top of the second inning, and never look back. Leading 9-4 in the sixth inning, the Cowgirls put the game away with 10 runs and completed the sweep with a 19-4 win, with the game being called after six innings. Nicole Latta pitched all six innings for Scott City and took the loss.

Up next for Scott City (0-2, 0-2 GWAC) is a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Hoisington, while Goodland (3-1, 2-0) hosts Hugoton.
