Scott City cross country working on returning to state as a team
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The 2024 Scott City cross country teams have put in the miles this summer, and are gearing up for another season.
Last year’s squad make the bump up to Class 4A, where they qualified both teams to state out of the Buhler Regional. The boys team earned a sixth place finish, while the girls finished seventh as a team.
While the boys lost a good group of seniors from a year ago, several runners return with varsity experience, including senior Logan Stoppel, who is the top returning runner. Junior Belle Trout returns for the girls team as the top runner, as she was just out of the running for a medal at state a year ago. The Lady Beavers lost just one senior from last years team.
This year’s squad consists of 12 boys and seven girls, as Joey Meyer enters his fifth year as the head coach. Alex Fox returns as an assistant for the program.
Competition begins on September 5 in Goodland.
