Beaver

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In 2011, Scott City was looking for a head coach in girls tennis. Cheryl Kucharik had learned the game and the rules of tennis from her husband, Steve who was a coach over 30 years in two different stints.

After 13 seasons with both the girls and boys programs, Kucharik is retiring from coaching tennis, as the head girls coach and the assistant boys program. She will remain as a curriculum coordinator for USD 466.

The program has seen the bar raised over the past decade-plus, from team league championships to regional team titles and state placers.

In 2021, Kucharik earned the Kansas Girls Tennis Coach of the Year honors.
