Scott City golf 11th at 4A state; two area golfers make cut to second day

McPherson, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Day one of the Class 4A State Golf Tournament at Turkey Creek in McPherson saw a delay on Monday. Once the golf got started, it would be a day that saw four individuals shoot even, or under par. 

As a team, Scott City would miss the cut, as they finished in 11th place on the tournament’s opening day. The top six teams advanced to the second day. Two area golfers will play for a chance to be in the top 20 and become a state medalist.

Scott City’s Jackson Rumford and Hugoton’s Ayden Harper advanced to Tuesday’s final day of the state tournament.

For Scott City, Jackson Rumford was tied for 13th place with a round of 76 after the opening day. Matthew Wheeler missed the cut by three shots, as he finished in a three-way tie for 50th with a round of 84. Eli Lisenby was 69th with a round of 88, Tracer Chapman 77th with a round of 92, Cauy Vance was 89th, shooting a 100 and Drew Metzger was 90th with a round of 92. 

Hugoton’s Ayden Harper as 37th, shooting an 81 and Storm Heger was 88th, as he shot a 98.

Wamego built a 23-shot lead over Circle and Bishop Miege in the team race after the opening day.
