Lady Beaver softball earns top regional seed with triangular sweep

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Scott City knew they were in prime position to host a regional. What seed they would be all depended on Tuesday. They Lady Beavers didn’t allow a run all day, and clinched the top seed in Class 4A, West, with wins of 2-0 over Cimarron and 10-0 over Hugoton.

It turned out to be a defensive battle between the Bluejays and Beavers. Hits were at a minimum, but it would be Scott City that got the hit that made the difference. With a runner at second in the bottom of the sixth, Cheyenne Cramer would hit a two-run home run over the center field fence, and that proved to be all the runs the Lady Beavers would need in their 2-0 victory. Cimarron had a runner reach on an error to lead off the seventh, but they would be retired on three straight strikeouts.

Cramer picked up the win in the circle, giving up four hits, and struck out 13 batters. Scott City had five hits overall. 

Scott City 10, Hugoton 0, Game 2 (5 Inn.)
After Cimarron defeated Hugoton 10-2, Scott City would face off against the Lady Eagles. It would be close early on, as the Lady Beavers led 1-0 through the first two innings, but were consistent over the next three innings, scoring three runs in each of the next three innings. It was a senior day special once again for Cheyenne Cramer, who struck out six, and scattered three hits in five innings in the circle. She also had four hits and drove in five urns. Jordynn Kough had two hits and two RBI, while Ashlynn Rose and Kaylee Felker each had three his in the win. 

Scott City closes the regular season at 17-3 on the year, and will be the top seed in the Class 4A, West division. McPherson will be the second seed. There will be a few games to be played on Friday, and seeding will officially take place on Saturday.
