Scott City baseball sweeps Ellis
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a big day for the Scott City offense on Friday, as they played host to the Ellis Railers in non-league play. The Beavers were able to put up double digit runs in both games, taking a 14-0 win in the opener and 15-8 in the finale.
In game one, Scott City wasted little time getting on the board, as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning. The Beavers added two more runs in the third inning, and blew the game open in the fourth with an eight-run inning. Eloy Ruelas struck out six, while scattering four hits in five innings of work. Brady Welker had a two-run home run, and Spencer Cramer added a two-run inside the park home run. Emilio Contreras had two hits and two RBI.
The final was more of a shootout, as the Railers had the first lead of the second game, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Scott City would counter with five in the bottom of the frame to take a 5-2 lead, that held up through the first two innings. Ellis got two runs back, and Scott City scored the next four runs of the game to lead 9-5 through four innings. The Railers pulled to within 9-8 in the fifth inning, only to see the Beavers put up six in the bottom of the inning. No runs were scored over the final two innings to make the final 15-8. Aaron Armendariz went four-plus innings, giing up seven runs, five earned, on seven hits, with four strikeouts. Spencer Cramer got the win, allowing a run on a hit with four strikeouts. Avery Radke had two hits and three RBI, while Trey Ryan drove in three runs for the Beavers.
Scott City goes 4-0 on the week, and are now 9-5 on the year. They’ll host Garden City on Friday for a doubleheader.
