Scott City tennis third at Ellsworth, softball sweeps Ulysses
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Thursday saw the Scott City tennis team make the trip to Ellsworth, and softball take on Ulysses in a league doubleheader. Tennis would be in a tough tournament, placing third, while the Lady Beaver softball team picked up a pair of lopsided wins at Ulysses.
At Ellsworth, Scott City would finish third as a team with 49 points. Central Plains edged Wichita Classical for the team title with 65 points, while Classical had 63. Leading the way were the No. 2 Doubles team of Kade Bonville/Dante Franco, as they placed second. The No. 1 Doubles team of Avry Noll/Sage Stoecklein placed third, as did Ayden Presson at No. 2 Singles. Houston Frank was fourth at No. 1 Singles. Scott City will be at the Larned Invitational on Tuesday.
In Ulysses, the Lady Beavers softball team took wins of 14-0 and 23-2. The first game lasted five inings, as Scott City scored in each inning. They had 12 hits, as Cheyenne Cramer had five RBI, while Peyton Gentry had three hits and two RBI, and Jordynn Kough drove in three runs. Cramer struck out 11 and allowed just one hit in five innings of work, throwing only 65 pitches. Game two saw Scott City score 12 first inning runs, en route to a 23-2 win. It would be a three-inning affair, as the Lady Beavers tacked on 10 more runs in the second and one in the third. Ulysses scored both of their runs in the third inning. Gentry drove in four runs on two hits, while Jordis Shaw had three RBI, and Ashlyn Pazdernik had three hits and two RBI. Kaylee Felker drove in three runs as well. Cramer gave up two unearned runs on a hit and had six strikeouts in three innings of work. Scott City is now 6-2 overall, 4-2 in GWAC play, as they host Cimarron on Tuesday.
