Hoxie leads 3-2-1A Boys after day 1; Area wrestler reaches semi-finals
Salina, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–For the first time since 1979, the Class 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament is not in Hays. They make the move to Salina’s Tony’s Pizza Events Center for the three-day tournament, as two rounds would be wrestled on Thursday.
Just one area wrestler punched their ticket to the semi-finals, as Wichita County’s Wyatt Gardner is in the semis at 150 pounds. Only one wrestler was eliminated from the area on Thursday.
The three-time defending champion Hoxie Indians lead after the opening day, as they put six into the semi-finals on Friday. Norton was in second after the first day and Atchison County Community was third.
Wrestling begins at 2 pm on Friday with the consolation second round, followed by the championship semi-finals and the consolation quarterfinals.
