Rose Hill builds day 1 lead in Class 4A; Six area wrestlers reach semi-finals
Salina, Kan. (westernkansaanews.com)–Class 4A boys would start off the three-day state wrestling tournament on Thursday morning, inside Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina. From the area, 15 wrestlers would take the mat, and all but two would advance to Friday’s competition.
There would be six area wrestlers guarantee themselves a state medal to go along with advancing to Friday’s semi-final round. Scott City put three in the semis, with Trenton Frank at 106, Houston Frank at 175 and Tanner Gooden at 215. Ulysses had Jaxsen Salinas at 138, and Braysen Salinas at 144. Holcomb’s Gregery Martinez is in the semi-finals at 138.
Rose Hill put six wrestlers into the semi-finals and has the lead after the first day with 69.5 points, while Clay Center is in second with 58 and Tonganoxie is in third with 55 points.
Day two of the Class 4A State Touranment will commence at 9 am Friday, with the consolation 2nd Round, followed by the championship semi-finals and the consolation quarterfinals.
