Hoxie takes Norton Regional; Six area wreslers qualify for state

Norton, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Several schools make their way to Stull Gymnasium in Norton on Saturday for the Class 3-2-1A Regional in hopes to qualify for state in Salina on Thursday. The Hoxie Indians would be dominant once again, as they would take the regional championship, with Norton edging out Phillipsburg for runner-up.

Hoxie qualified nine wrestlers for state, while Norton qualified seven. Cimarron and Wichita County would qualify three wrestlers for state. The Bluejays got Erik Garcia at 113, Nash McCoy at 138 and Logan Seifried at 165, while Wichita County saw Tayson Guerra at 106, Tyson Peters at 113 and Wyatt Gardner, who was the tournament champion at 150.

Norton’s Corbin Puga was named the the KWCA Regional Wrestler of The Year, while Phillipsburg Coach Andy Kenney was the KWCA Regional Coach of The Year.
