Five Buffaloes Sign Letters of Intent Wednesday

GARDEN CITY, Kan. – Five student-athletes at Garden City High School inked their letters of intent at The Garden Wednesday morning.

The five seniors signed on to continue their athletic careers and pursue their educational goals at the next level.

“We know that they are going to show distinction at whatever they choose to do, or have chosen what to do next,” Garden City head principal, Steve Nordby, said. 

Buffaloes’ football standout Ethen Allen signed his letter of intent with Garden City Community College. Allen was a three-year letterman for the Buffaloes, also ranking in the top 20 in Kansas in kick return yards as a senior. 

Allen was also named to the All-State and Western Athletic Conference teams last fall.

“He started playing with a lot of confidence in his senior year,” Brian Hill, Garden City football head coach, said in an interview last month. “I still think he has a lot of great football in front of him.”

Buffaloes’ volleyball star Lexi Arwine penned her letter of intent with Garden City Community College. Arwine spent two seasons at the varsity level, starting during her senior season.

Arwine helped guide the Buffaloes volleyball team to a sub-state championship and state qualifier last fall.

“Today has been a long time coming for Lexi,” Trista Bailey, GCHS volleyball coach, said. “She has not only shown tremendous improvement on the court… but also in her confidence and leadership skills.”

Kamdyn Carr inked her letter of intent with Garden City Community College to play volleyball and track and field. Carr is a talented three-sport athlete at GCHS, lettering in volleyball, basketball, and track and field.

In addition, she has also completed the Kansas Scholars Curriculum and will graduate as a member of the National Honor Society.

“It’s a big honor to be a Buffalo, it’s something that I hold to a high standard,” Carr said Tuesday, after Garden City’s girl’s basketball win over Dodge City. “Being a Buffalo, you have a community of people around you, which is really good, and really fun to be a part of.”

Football and wrestling superstar Sebastian Lopez also signed with Garden City Community College to pursue his dreams on the football field. Lopez was the Buffaloes’ team offensive lineman of the year this last fall.

Lopez was also named 6A All-State and to the 2024 Shrine Bowl team.

“I’d like to thank my lord and savior, Jesus Christ, for this opportunity and everything he’s done in my life,” Lopez stated. “I would also like to thank my family for their sacrifices they’ve made to help me reach my goals.”

Finally, standout lineman Andrew Moreno committed to Southwestern College to continue his football career. Moreno was named to All-Western Athletic Conference teams in each of his two seasons with Buffaloes football.

Moreno was also an honorable mention to the 2023 6A All-State team.

“I chose Southwestern because of the coaching staff,” Moreno said. “I really felt comfortable being around them, it felt like a second home.”
