Rose Hill boys, Dodge City girls win Rocky Welton Invitational titles

Garden City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–As the post season is quickly approaching, 40 boys teams and 24 girls teams made up of the Rocky Welton Wrestling Tournament inside Garden City High School. Saturday saw the girls take the mat alongside the boys tournament for their one day tournament. Rose Hill would win the 66th Annual Rocky Welton Boys tournament, while Dodge City remained at the top of the third Rocky Welton girls tournament.

Rose Hill would make their move on the back side on Saturday, after they were in third after the first day. The Rockets would pull away for a 14-point win over Pueblo East, who was in second after the opening day. Maize finished in third and Garden City moved up to fourth. 

The Buffaloes would have two champions, as Braydon Pacheco took the 106-pound weight class, while Sebastian Lopez repeated as champion at 285. Tournament champion Rose Hill would have only one individual winner, as Damon Ingram won at 138. Pueblo East and Andale had two tournament winners. Dodge City and Ulysses both had finalists, but would fall in their finals match. Defending champion Pine Creek was seventh.

On the girls side, Dodge City won its third Rocky Welton Invitational, as it was a sweep in the top three for the WAC. Garden City was runner-up once again and Hays finished third. The Lady Red Demons had a big day, as Ashley Alonso won at 110, Ariana De La Rosa was the winner at 130, Haley Ramos won at 135, and Yareli Garcia was the champion at 145. Garden City did get one individual winner, as Crystal Loera was the champion for the Lady Buffaloes at 115 pounds.
