Scott City takes two from Cimarron
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–For the first time in six weeks, Scott City was able to play on their home floor. In front of the Beavers on Friday night were the Cimarron Bluejays, as Scott City played their first GWAC doubleheader of the season that counted towards the league standings. It would be a sweep for the Beavers, as the girls picked up a 55-28 win, while the boys pulled away in the fourth quarter in a 59-44 triumph.

Cimarron grabbed the early lead, but the Lady Beavers would go on a run and never look back. The Lady Bluejays led 3-0 early on, only to see Scott City (8-5, 1-0 GWAC) score the next 15 points of the game, as they led 15-3 in the opening seconds of the second quarter. Following a pair of Cimarron treys, the Lady Beavers went on another run to go up 25-9, with 3:17 left before the break. The Lady Bluejays bounced back and scored seven of the final eight points of the first half to make it 26-16 Scott City at the break. For a second straight game, the Scott City defense would limit an opponent to under five second half field goals. The Lady Beavers saw Cimarron (2-10, 0-2) get to within 31-20 with 5:56 left in the third quarter. Scott City would go on a tear over the next eight minutes, and use a 20-3 run to lead 51-23 with 5:34 left. They grew their lead to 54-24 with 3:06 left, as a continuous clock was used, and the Lady Beavers picked up the 55-28 win.
Avery Lewis tied a career-high with 14 points for Scott City, while Eriak Felker added 10. The Lady Beavers went 16-26 from the line and had 13 turnovers in the game. Cimarron got 11 from Teagan Eskam, as they were 9-14 from the foul line and had 21 turnovers.
Scott City swept the season series for the first time since 2020, which was the last time that they have won twice in the series. Cimarron now olds the series edge 17-11.

It was a game that had four lead changes in the first quarter. When Scott City took the lead, it was for good, despite a run by Cimarron in the second half. The Beavers took a 14-11 lead after the first quarter, but couldn’t shake themselves of the Bluejays. Scott City (8-5, 1-0 GWAC) built a 22-13 lead midway through the second frame, and settled for a 26-21 halftime lead. To open the second half, the Beavers sank three of four techical foul shots. The Bluejays were called for two technicals out of the break because of two players touching the rim during halftime warmups. Scott City scored the first five points and seven of the first nine to lead 33-23 halfway through the third stanza. Cimarron (3-9, 0-2) made a surge, feasting off of Beaver turnovers. The Bluejays pulled to within 37-36 wiht 6:24 left, using a 13-4 run. Scott City settled down and went on a major run over a three-minute stretch, as their 13-3 run put them up 50-32 with 3:32 left. Their lead grew to 59-42 with two minutes left, before settling for the 59-42 victory.
Eloy Ruelas led the way with 17 points for Scott City, while Jackson Rumford had 15 points and Sage Stoecklein added 10. The Beavers went 9-12 from the foul line and had 15 turnovers. Cimarron got 15 from Trace Kopper and 10 from Trent Briggs and Miguel Ramirez. The Bluejays went 5-8 from the line and had 16 turnovers.
With the win, Scott City has won six straight in the series, and hold a 21-1 lead in the series, as they saw their three-game losing skid come to an end.
