Driver injured while fleeing officers in Seward County

Seward County, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–A Dodge City man was injured Saturday morning during a police pursuit in Seward County at around 8:45 am.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a Seward County Deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 29-year-old Yosimar Alarcon of Dodge City for a damaged windshield. Alarcon would flee westbound on US Highway 54, almost striking a Liberal Police Department Officer on the eastbound shoulder. The pickup went into the east ditch to avoid striking the Liberal Police vehicle.

Stop sticks were deployed by the Liberal Police, which were successful. Alarcon attempted to get back on US Highway 54 westbound, but entered a side skid and entered the west ditch, where it caught and rolled an unknow amount of times before coming to a rest upright, facing southeast.

Alarcon was taken to Southwest Medical Center for injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
