Colby boys, Scott City girls take team titles at Scott City Classic
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–On a chilly Saturday, several schools made the trip to Scott City for the 39th Annual Scott City Wrestling Classic at the Scott Community Events Center, as well as in the auxillary gym at Scott City Middle School.
On the boys side, the Colby Eagles would take the tournament title, winning by 24.5 points over runner-up Scott City, while Ulysses was third. Individually, Scott City would have two tournament champions in Trenton Frank at 106, and Houston Frank at 175. Brayson Salinas was a winner for Ulysses at 144 pounds, while Carmelo Orosco was the tournament champion for the Tigers at 215. Wichita County also had two individual titles, as Wyatt Gardner was the winner at 150, and Brandon Price took the 285-pound title. Holcomb’s Gregery Martinez was the winner at 138. He also picked up his 100th career victory in the championship match. The Fastest Pin winner was Carmelo Orosco of Ulysses, with an eight-second fall, while Scott City’s Houston Frank won the Outstanding Wrestler award in the boys tournament.
In the girls tournament, the Scott City girls picked up their second straight Scott City Wrestling Classic team title with 178 points, while St. Francis was second with 126.5 points. The Lady Beavers had three winners, as Audrina Ortiz won the 100-pound weight class, Dayanar Jimenez was the winner at 145, and Lidia Alfonso won the 190-pound weight class. Wichita County’s Jentri Porter was the winner at 105, Jeymi Rosales of Ulysses won at 125, Lakin’s Ivy Davis was the 135-pound winner and Holcomb’s Rian Rodriguez took the 155-pound weight class. The Fastest Pin award went to Stafford’s Kyle Haskins with at 10-second fall, and the Outstanding Wrestler for the girls tournament went to Kylee Hodges of Oakley.
