Area wrestlers have good showing at Hoisington Corner Classic

Hoisington, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Several area wrestlers made their way to Hoisington on Friday for the Hoisington Corner Classic, which hosted a boys and girls tournament. The tournament would see Great Bend take the team titles in both the boys and girls divisions.

On the boys side, it would be a pair of Panther teams dominating the team score, as Great Bend had 241.5, while Concordia finished with 216. Hoisington was third, and Holcomb came in fifth, with Cimarron in sixth. There would only be one winner from the area, as Cimarron’s Erik Garcia took the 113-pound weight class.

For the girls, Great Bend put up 172 points, while Scott City was second with 131, as Liberal was third with 126. Holcomb placed fifth. There would be two area tournament champions, as Audrey Schwartz from Scott City would win at 120, and Holcomb’s Rian Rodriguez was the tournament champion at 155.
