Scott City boys, Colby girls take Hoxie Invitational titles

Hoxie, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The first tournament of the season saw nine schools head to Hoxie on Saturday for the annual Hoxie Invitational wrestling tournament. It would be a good battle for the top spot in both the boys and girls, as Scott City would take the top spot in the boys, and Colby won the girls meet.

The Beavers held off Colby by six and defending champion Hoxie by 18 to claim their first Hoxie Invitational title since 2016. The Beavers got tournament wins from Trenton Frank at 106, Waylon Ricker at 132, Ayden Presson at 144, Collin McDaniel at 165, Houston Frank at 175 and Tanner Gooden at 215. Hugoton was fourth and Cimarron finished ninth. McDaniel was named the outstanding wrestler for the tournament. 

On the girls side, Colby would take the team title, as Scott City woudl finish second. The Lady Beavers got tournament wins from Haylie McDaniel at 105, Audrey Schwartz at 120, Dayanara Jimenez at 140-145, Ashlyn Pazdernik at 155 and Lydia Alfonso at 190. Hugoton’s Lauren Nix was the winner at 170 pounds, as the Lady Eagles were third as a team.
