Garden City Athletics Names Kiyoshi Harris as Program’s 24th Football Head Coach

GARDEN CITY, KS. – The Garden City Broncbusters named former Boise State Coordinator of recruiting relations and player personnel, Kiyoshi Harris, their next football head coach on Tuesday afternoon.

“Garden CIty has a proud and historic football program,“ Mike Pilosof, Garden City athletic director, said. “Today, we add a new chapter to that history.”

Harris has spent roughly 20 seasons in the NJCAA rankings, most notably working 10 years at Chaffey College in California. Harris has served numerous roles, including offensive line coach, run game coordinator, tight ends coach, and running backs coach during his tenure across the JUCO ranks.

“Everybody has a calling in life, I think my calling is to be at the junior college level,” Harris said. “I chose to be here at Garden City, I chose here to be at the junior college level because that’s my mission.”

Harris’ most impressive stint came in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference, spending two seasons as head coach of the Independence Pirates. Harris’ Pirates went 11-3 in conference games, including winning the 2019 KJCCC with a 6-1 conference record.

The Pirates were an overall 13-4 in his two seasons as head coach.

“We wanted somebody who was student-centered, somebody who could completely change the culture of our program,” Pilosof said.

Harris helped land four different four-star recruits during his tenure at Boise State, which lasted roughly two seasons.
