Lady Busters rout Lamar for second time

Lamar, Colo. (westernkansasnews.com)–It would’ve been easy for the Garden City Broncbuster women’s team to overlook Lamar after they defeated them by 60, 12 days earlier, along with conference play beginning on Saturday. Other than one tie, the Lady Busters dominated the night, as they picked up an 82-42 victory at Lamar Community College Tuesday night to wrap up non-conference play at 4-1.

Garden City got out to an early 7-0 lead, only to see the Lady Lopes tie it at seven. However, the Lady Busters would score nine of the next 11 points and led 16-13 after the opening frame. In the second quarter, Garden City stormed out with 17 straight to lead 33-13 with 6:23 left before halftime. Leading 37-15, the Lady Busters saw Lamar make a run in the final four minutes of the half with a 9-3 run to pull to within 40-24 at intermission.

To open the second half, the Lady Lopes scored the first five points, pulling to within 40-29 with 7:51 left in the third quarter. That would be the closest they got the rest of the night. Garden City closed the final seven minutes of the third stanza on a 21-4 run to lead 61-33 after three quarters. In the final period, GCCC used an 18-2 run over a five-minute stretch to have their biggest lead at 82-39 with 1:26 left, as they cruised to the 82-42 win.

Antonicia Moultrie led the way with 22 points and six rebounds, while Maya Nieto had six three’s, and had a career-high 18 points off the bench. Ana Ramos Pires poured in 12 points and Sierra Driessen added 10. The Buster defense forced 30 turnovers, and had 17 steals. 

Lamar, who dropped to 1-5, got 11 points from Leah Delgarito off the bench.

Up next for Garden City is their conference opener at home against Colby Saturday afternoon at 2 pm.
