GARDEN CITY, KS. – Head coach Rusty Elmore insisted that he wanted to see his team move the basketball around more consistently.

The Broncbusters had dropped two in a row to open up the week, recording too many turnovers and not enough assists. Thursday night, Garden City moved the ball brilliantly, getting constant high-percentage possession after possession.

The Garden City Broncbusters got back to winning ways against the Sterling College JV Warriors with a 96-55 win at Conestoga Arena. The Broncbusters crushed the Warriors in the second half, scoring 59 points on elite efficiency.

“You only get confidence by putting in the work,” Elmore said after the game. “Hopefully that will continue.”

Garden City (2-2) led for the entirety of the game, but did struggle initially. The Broncbusters got off to a 5-of-24 start from the floor, but cashed in plenty at the line to gain a 14-point lead at the half, 37-23.

Sophomore Thomas Tut led Garden City with 12 points in the first half, and exploded at the start of the second half. The St. Peter’s transfer scored nine straight points out of the gates, ballooning the Busters’ lead up to 18.

“He was simple, he was getting to the rim,” Elmore said. “Thomas is going to be a really good player in this league.”

Tut finished with a career-high 26 points, hitting nine of his 10 field goals, and cashing in with a near perfect eight-of-nine on free throws.

“My teammates put me in the spots to dominate,” Tut said. “Crashing the glass, being aggressive from the jump, that’s what got me going.”

Braxton Jones got hot at the end of the game, also scoring a career-high 28 points with eight three pointers. It was the fourth straight game that Jones led the Broncbusters in scoring.

Sterling JV (2-2) tied the game early, but couldn’t keep pace with Garden City’s size and speed as the game wore on. Gavin Dobbins led the Warriors with 18 points in the defeat.

The Broncbusters head on the road to Texas next Tuesday for their next contest against the Frank Phillips Plainsmen. Coverage begins at 7:10 P.M. on KWKR 99.9 ‘The Rock’ on the American Implement pregame show. Tip-off between the Broncbusters and Plainsmen is set for 7:30 P.M.
