Broncbusters Football Shuts Down Ellsworth for Fourth Win

GARDEN CITY, KS. – Fifth year head coach had been looking for a complete team performance going into last weekend’s matchup with No. 1 Hutchinson.
Garden City opened the season with a complete team victory against Butler, then proceeded to play well on both sides of the ball last weekend against the unbeaten Blue Dragons.
This Saturday, in their first game at Broncbuster Stadium in 35 days, the Broncbusters looked happy – and comfortable – right on their home turf.
The Garden City Broncbusters dismantled Ellsworth, taking down the Panthers, 25-0, at Broncbuster Stadium in Garden City. GCCC gained over 350 yards of total offense, but more impressively, held Ellsworth to just nine yards of total offense.
“Shout out to the defense, the defensive line got after it today,” offensive coordinator Ryan Felker said. “I’m proud of them, they make us look better.”
Garden City’s defense recorded six sacks, three interceptions, and gave up just four Ellsworth first downs all afternoon. The only non-penalty first down gained by ECC came on their opening drive on an 18-yard completion.
Plenty of Garden City (4-5, 2-3 KJCCC) defensive players had career days in the victory. Returners Bryce Butler and Elijah Wade both recorded 3.0 tackles for loss in the victory. Five different defensive linemen recorded sacks, with redshirt freshman Jalil Muhammad recording 1.5 sacks.
Interceptions were recorded by Pierre Kemeni, B.J. Blake, and Daniel Martin. Garden City’s offense revved into life in the second quarter, scoring two touchdowns off the aforementioned picks.
Fred Davis roared the Broncbusters’ offense to life, scoring touchdowns of 24 yards and one yard to give GCCC a 12-0 halftime lead.
“Fred really stepped up today, he was really productive,” Felker said. “Being productive in the run game is huge… [Fred]’s a high-character kid who works hard.”
The second half defense was phenomenal, holding Ellsworth (1-9, 0-2 ICCAC) to just one first down in the entire half.
Garden City’s ground game put the game away in the fourth. Buffalo transfer Khamran Laborn darted 15 yards to the end zone to make it 19-0. Davis put the icing on the cake with his third touchdown of the game with 3:20 to go.
Davis finished with a season-most 146 yards, three touchdowns in the victory over the Panthers. Additionally on offense, tight end Ajou Ajou and wide receiver Isaiah Brevard both posted season-highs in receiving yards, Ajou finishing with a game-high 69 yards.
The Broncbusters close their home season next Saturday against No. 5 Snow College. Coverage begins at 10:30 A.M. with the American Implement Pregame Show. Kickoff between the Badgers and Broncbusters is scheduled for 11:00 A.M.
